For me, it depends on the music and mood of the song even if I can’t understand the language. I like Unravel, My War, Again, etc. So that’s why Kiara’s originals haven’t really clicked with me. I like Reflect because the music is cool and the vocals are pretty good. I’d put it on par with Guh or OWTH.

But it comes down to not just the quality of the song but marketing it to the right audience. My guess is that KFP on average would probably want more Hinotori and less Heart Challenger. Kiara rides the finest of lines for GFE. She totally feeds into people consistently purposefully (like the eating stuff for the ASMR) but it's always just off enough from what people like about it that she can dismiss it. She leans on us (or at least pretends to) and uses us for an emotional boost and moral support while also treating us sweetly and occasionally plays coyly with us. She gives us zatsu's with every single stream almost and refuses to outright do actual zatsu's, gets angry and frustrated with us from time to time, and really does love our attention. Of all the bait and trolling on /vt/, I think this is the first time I've seen meaningful constructive criticism.

I've listened to both, and Heart Challenger is genuinely a good "Valentines day feel-good" song. You could play that in Hallmark during Jan / Feb and it would fit.

Outside of that context though, I'm not likely to jam to it in my car for example, whereas Hinotori or Akitoba I would.

I think Heart Challenger was better than Hinotori but it's not a song I could listen to more than once in a sitting. It's a seasonal song (Valentine's day) and very happy idol pop.

The issue in general is that Kiara ended up rushing both Hinotori and Heart Challenger to meet a hard deadline (Thanksgiving and Valentines day). Hell, even the song for Huke was made in a few days and she still can't figure out that not everyone knows Japanese for some reason (I didn't know what the fuck the song was called, I just knew it as that one supercell song). It's a problem she has in general where she's swamped with projects and ends up half-assing them.
Personally I hope she does less idol pop since it's not really a genre I like (and literally everyone in Hololive does it) but Kiara is the embodiment of an idol weeb so that's not happening.

I feel bad for Kiara. The audience she ended up keeping is not one that likes the same sort of music that she does. When Gura made her song she said that she was surprised, and that she expected Gura would make a happy song about candy or something. I think that speaks to her own personal tastes (She literally did make her second song about candy after all). But Gura, as much as she does her whole cutesy thing doesn't really strike me as that sort of person.
