I feel like a real shitty person when I drift apart from chuubas due to losing interest in their content or realizing I don't mesh with the rest of their fanbase, etc.
If they were just streamers I watched on occasion then whatever who gives a shit, but when you're a bit closer like these small knit communities it makes you think you're abandoning a friend almost. I'd say largely no, at least for current Twitch. The Twitch experience really depends on which channel you're in. If you're in forsen or Nymn's chat or something, sure I guess the comparison works. Anywhere else, no. Twitch really comes down to what streamer you're watching, how moderated their chat is, and what subscriber/3rd party emotes they have. Vtuber chats on Twitch specifically have a very un-4chan-like vibe.

Reddit might be a better analog for Twitch than it is for YouTube because every chat is basically it's own subreddit with a slightly different culture. Ironically, the actual Twitch related equivalent to 4chan is a subreddit (livestreamfail).

I deliberately don't watch debuts/redebuts because I find them subpar content. A bunch of slideshows about your interests like this is the first day of school, showing off a bunch of toggles on your (sometimes new) model that you'll never use after today, maybe singing a few songs or playing a game that's relevant to your character lore when we all know you're just gonna stream minecraft in perpetuity starting next week.
Vtubers are not, in fact, live action anime characters. they're people. You don't meet people with a big reveal. For lack of a better term you catch them in medias res, and that's how I'd rather get to know a chuuba.
