Some keep kayfabe, some do not. In the west a lot of them are just twitch thots who put on cat ears and use a cartoon avatar to be cute and thats the extent of it, but then there is fuwamoco who wont break character at all even in a casual interview.

In japan the animal girls tend to stick to character more.
