I also like the game but the space combat is pretty atrocious. Not just because of the clunkyness, but I genuinely can't find a way to handle a fight with more than one enemy ship on harder difficulties unless you make either flight skills or buying a new ship your top priority from the get go. I guess that's realistic, but it's not very fun. If it didn't feel so sluggish I might not mind as much.
