I think they made the right decision. Both Magni and Vesper had a pretty unfiltered style of streaming, so being able to do that without any management breathing down your neck is better for them. I think they did have their moments of cohesion with Holostars, but I think everybody could tell they weren't really 100% in it.
Seriously, they sound much happier in their current streams than they ever did being in Holostars. They may have played it up at times for how much they love being in Holostars, but it's obvious it was never for them in the long run.

Long time stars watcher. Despite everything, JP stars managed to climb out of literal one-view hell, constant flame wars from unicorns, and literal illness - both mental and physical. What I think happened is that they managed to get in, thought it was awesome for a little bit, but the behind the scenes corporate stuff and management probably made them completely change their minds.

Niji wasn't a guarantee either at the time, noctyx had significantly less impact and as many guessed the trend continued. StarsEN was an unknown, it could've been Myth 2. The more "boring" the truth becomes, the more awful it makes the whole thing look. If both of them prefered to leave and go independent over being in a company, then it means whatever goes on behind the scenes is so bad that they prefered leaving. They might have left on good terms, but they still left. This means that male vtubers will have it really bad even if they join a corp and that it may genuinely be the right move to join a company for one year to build up an audience and the funnel them into your indie account when you leave, it's possibly the only viable strategy. The women tolerate it because they make six to eight times the money in less streams, but the men might not have much reason to stick around aside from not wanting to go back to a normal 9-5 job. But if it's guys like vesper and magni who possibly don't mind that, then this might not be the last time it happens to holostars.
