You're writing your posts in good English, so you have plenty enough to start. Of course a great author has typically honed his writing skill by being familiar with a lot of relevant literature, but this is thread is for fanfiction about women LARPing as anime girls. We have both too many and too few writers to have super high standards, and we already like the chuuba characters.
And pleasing yourself should be even easier because you already love the idea of the story that you want to write.

And what about when it comes to writing about a vtuber? I'll admit that I have a "lot" of interesting ideas in my head (that may or may not be interesting to you guys) but there's only one thing that's holding me back.

I don't watch vtubers a lot. If I do its the ones I'm a member of, like their voice, or if they're playing a game I like to see them scream in rage at (ie: Koyori when she played SM64). I wouldn't want to write something when I completely butcher their character to the point someone like Mio could end up being like say... Rushia?

Honestly the fact of the matter is is that you're never gonna be 100% faithful to everything a chuuba will think and do, so as long as you hit major points it's never gonna be so out of whack that it takes you out of it. Honestly there's not too many fics in the archive that are insanely OOC without the entire premise being about that, anyways. Though, if you're looking to learn more about specific chuubas without grinding through hundreds of hours of streams, feel free to ask about them in their generals if they've got one. Most of those people are looking for any excuse to talk about their oshi and in my experience I've never been told to fuck off or anything.

Been thinking a lot about the nature of vtuber fanfiction.
In normal fanfiction, you have distinctly constucted characters with intended flaws and positive traits. But vtubers are more nebulous, being imperfect actors.
The question is, is it better to represent vtubers as they are, or rather the idea of they are perceived?
I think the spirit of vtubing in the present vtubing age and how it differs from normal streaming is the fantasy aspect. They are idols and symbols more so than your average youtube content creator. As much as it's taboo to say it here, people want the pleasant fiction and wish aboid the bad "inaccurate" parts. This opens up doors when it comes to fudging character traits.
When people want to read about Gura, they want the downtempo charismatic ace that might be a little lazy, but still gets it right on the first try in a very moe manner. They don't want the lazy from anxiousness to the point of uncaring aspect. Forgive my inconsiderate example.

I think it's up to the writer and what kind of story they want to tell, really.
In the end, vtubers are characters, and characters are a means to drive the plot. That means they ought to act in a way that will help the writer tell the story he/she wants to tell. Of course, not to the point that they'll act OOC. Though depending on how you write it, you might be able to justify a bit of OOC behavior.
Audience reaction is another thing, however. If you're into writing chuuba fanfiction just to express what you want to express, this shouldn't be too much of an issue unless the quality of your writing is objectively bad. But If you're targeting an audience that likes a specific chuuba, then of course you'll want to play up their more appealing traits. This would work especially well if you're writing a character deconstruction and are planning to be subversive with your story.

On another hand, fanfic authors have been fudging or outright replacing characters for decades with their own view of the character (looking at you Naruto/Harry Potter), so it's more of a writing choice that your readers might not agree with.
By all means include things like Gura being distant if you think they'd make a story interesting, but it does bring the mood down, and a lot of people read/write fanfic for escapism like you said.

Well, you could always start out by writing about vtubers you do know well. But being "accurate" to the character isn't that crucial for multiple reasons:
- We only see vtubers while they are streaming to a large audience but almost all fics feature them in other situations, so "they aren't like that on stream" isn't a universal problem
- Vtubing as a medium - through its combination of a real person, and a character with "lore", and memes/tropes that the community associates with them - usually leads to a pretty large and diverse mix of character traits you can use, but don't have to
- Most of your audience only has a surface-level understanding of the vtuber as well, so they won't really notice a simplified and flanderized portrayal (if they care in the first place)
- Various fanfic scenarios only work if you write the character a certain way (like wanting sex with men, being in high school, existing in a new fantasy world...) and readers accept that
- Specifically for chuubas who don't speak English much, you're basically "translating" everything they say which gives you wiggle room on speech patterns, catchphrases etc.

You can write Mio as a shrine-guardian (with Fubuki or not), a fortune-teller/witch, an aging woman desperate for marriage and children, Ayame's and Subaru's mother, a kemonomimi girl in heat, a mature teacher and more while still being "accurate" to some part of her - and it's obviously not sensible to include all of these aspects. In fact, /wg/ is even open to scenarious that go against an established character as long as it's made clear and is core to the premise. Even if you were unable to stick to the most basic of characterization (which you aren't) and wrote Mio like Rushia - if you said that it was a yandere, traumatized Mio it wouldn't be a big deal, really. There's room for "inaccurate" fanfics, to show characters changed in a way that gives them a new, interesting twist.

See the thing with vtubers is that they coexist with their character, Kayfabe is important but it will always blurr itself with the person behind the avatar. This makes it so both parts of the character are valid. psychosuisei is as valid as IdolSuisei, and wild takes on characters is as valid.
No one will go NO ITS WRONG when reading our cures because that's rratayame, a version completely different from normal ayame. As long as there's something interesting to write, people will read.
Ironically, this makes vtubers with nonexistant kayfabe/boring lore really hard to write if their personality doesnt shine through. Gura is a great example because she has next to no lore and her persona is "girls who likes memes and is depressed".
Maybe someone with a cool idea could make something good with her, but for 99% of the writers there's nothing interesting enough to work there

The prompts (even the few that are submitted to the prompt archive) are in a hard spot because writers have many more sources of inspiration (chiefly themselves) than hours to actually write based on them. I had and saw multiple interesting ideas while I was still working on The Oni's Rebellion, but decided to ignore them; otherwise I'd end up with a list of fics I want to "get to someday" that'd distract me and would only grow longer.
I guess the lesson is that story ideas that you just HAVE to see fully fleshed out should be motivation to start writing yourself. Better than hoping someone else might do it for you.

That's a good question and I think it's a tough one because you have to think what circumstances would exaggerate their worst characteristics.
What makes Alt!Suisei a compelling concept is that Suisei has a very unique origin story compared to other hololive members. She started from nothing, kept trying and is now one of the pride of hololive. So imaging how far someone as tenacious as her would go, or how hard life must have denied her in order to break her really gets the gears going. The way INNK treated her was shameful and bad enough that she considered quitting. Suisei at one point, legitimately thought that she wouldn't make it as a vtuber and was prepared to leave it all behind. It's that razor's edge, those two minutes to midnight, that is what sells the concept.

It's a nature vs nurture thing. So I think figuring out which chuuba can fit that same dynamic is the key. Like, in a world where Marine didnt get in, is she just a wageslave, dead inside thanks to having her mangaka dreams crushed? Or is she a ruthless and cutthroat corpo?

I think you kind of laid out the three possibilities for alternate universe characterization here. The comedic personality flip meant as a gag, the tragic circumstance flip meant as a lesson to the mainline character in a "It's a wonderful life" type of moral lesson, and the dark mirror star trek style morality flip.
I think altsei is more type 2 than type 3 even if the implication from discussion and written work is that she's a less stable Suisei.
Honestly can't think of anyone other than Suisei that's suited for this kind of "interact with your alternate universe/self" since I can't really think of a good angle that makes for a good story, Suisei having her own origin story/arc kind of makes her naturally suited for this.
