Maybe that's what you want, but that's kayfabe and that hasn't really ever been a thing in Western vtubing from day one. It's a gimmick that the girls occasionally dabble into and use to organically preserve their privacy, but it's not an inherent aspect of their act.

Every single one of the girls talks about real life stuff in their streams. Every single one. You have many of them talk about how cringy they felt they were at debut. Why do you think that is? Yeah, nervousness is one aspect, but a huge part is them getting comfortable enough to be themselves with their audience.

Hiding behind the character allows them to mitigate a lot of anxiety they first experience, but as they develop a relationship with their audience, that character disappears slowly. Motherfucker, even Japanese chuubas don't really play their characters seriously. After debut and once they're comfortable, the most they do is pay lip service to it, and use it as a promo tool occasionally.

If kayfabe and keeping real life and fiction separate was such a big deal for people, you wouldn't have many twitch vtubers, many of which don't mind their RL pics be out there and actively streamed as fleshtubers before, be as successful as they are.

I don't know how you'd define 'being themselves', but I think they all fake and exaggerate a bit, for the entertainment value.
Still, playing a completely different character is unsustainable and your true self is bound to leak out after streaming for so long.
The acts have to align with who they really are to some degree, and I can appreciate those acts as an effort to please me, as long as they don't give off some shallow or scummy undertones.
