Was going to post this last thread but it died on me.

I had a quick glance at the general pastebin and I'm surprised there are only two options for PNGtubing recommended

It looks pretty nice, seems to have just about anything you could realistically want when PNGtubing.
But 12 dollarydoos??

Are there any other PNGtubing programs I'm missing or are these two really the only go-to options?
It seems like a simple enough thing that there'd be plenty of programs that serve the same purpose.
Hell, I'd be tempted to give it a go if there's really no other option.
I'd probably postpone it endlessly like any other "project" I've ever "tried" but there would at least be a file somewhere on my computer called "pngtubing thing", that much is a promise.

Idols are a part of a symbiotic relationship. The idol serves his fans and the fans encourage and support the idol.

Being an idol (at least of the male indie vtuber sort) does not really get you fans or even viewers. And an idol without fans is no idol.

Its no wonder he gave up on it. You can start strong and maintain the act only so long but without the fanbase to support you it is not at all easy to continue on. Ive seen something similar happen to several guys here. Attempting the idol path as a guy is kind of a debuff.

VGen team hosts artist+ applications on their twitter often, you can look out for those! there are also discord events hosted in their server that can get you invites. you can also go around asking already verified artists for invite codes but that can be risky considering if you get banned off vgen, the artist that gave you the code can get in trouble for it too (kindof like how scouting on Newgrounds works) for all of this you already need a pre-existing portfolio and online presence. good luck!

Software depends on whether you want to be a png or a moving model. Vtube Studio is the standard if you want motion and png plus for pngs. Rigging can be learned in as little as 2 or 3 weeks with constant practice but it might be incredibly difficult to rig an AI generated image since it doesn't come pre cut into layers like a standard model.

Any webcam or phone will work as long as it can capture your face well. Even the most garbage 480x640 webcams are enough to capture your face. I use a cheap gospace webcam and it's more than enough.

We've had a few people here use AI art for models and people generally don't care unless you're a full on enthusiast. You might filter people on a first impression but it's not a death sentence or anything. Most people can tell at a glance if it's AI but you should still be honest. Be sure to save up for a model made by a real artist since those always look nicer.

Vtubestudio is most recommended, but there are others too. If you just want to be a PNG tuber, I'd recommend using a free OBS plugin like this https://github.com/scaledteam/obs-image-reaction

I plan on using a webcam too, but as I understand, the best tracking unfortunately does come from iPhones proprietary software.

If you have a decent model of android or iphone you can just use that but it does require you to purchase vtube studio on your phone, and it doesn't count towards buying it on steam to remove the watermark, so that's something to keep in mind.
webcams eat the fuck out of your cpu and aren't really that great for tracking desu.
once you get to the point that you're using obs and vtubestudio make sure you look up how to install spout2 on obs so you can use spout capture instead of game capture, it's a cpu saver as well.
