This is what I *assume* happened.

Selen is a high achiever and hard worker. She genuinely loved her job streaming and loved her fans/audience. She put everyhting into this job as it's what gave her happiness. All her efforts pay off and she grows popular and loved very quickly. Except, this is her first time working at a Japanese company. Japanese companies are usually incredibly stringent with rules. As someone who used to handle all her own projects independently for years, she was not used to having to go through so many people to get permission for things and waiting for the said permissions. Bear in mind that the management for EN is already spotty and inconsistent, leading to more irritation from Selen, which made her revert to doing things her own way and not respecting management. Again, while a Western company would love this kind of independence and proactiveness, Japanese companies hate it and want you to follow their structure. But how can structure be followed when the structure is inefficient and flawed?

This lead to some of Selen's projects being delayed or cancelled (as she didn't go through avenues of management. Example would be the FG tournament). She was very visibly upset about this and made remarks on her streams and Twitter about it, which lead to her getting reprimanded due to all the backlash thrown at Niji. This made her feel more resentful, especially because Luxiem also made remarks regarding the cancellation fo the AR live, but seemingly got away with punishment due to favouritsm. This is most likely what lead Selen to secretly record Vox to prove that there was favouritism in Niji.

So by this time, Niji's rep is low because the livers themselves (not only Selen) have thrown remarks against Niji. We as fans couldn't see the reason WHY things were delayed or cancelled, so of course we naturally side with our favourite streamer.

But how do the others feel? The ones who silently accepted the rules and inefficient management? Nobody feels happy to see their own company being trashed. I think the girls had a talk with everyone (including the Luxiem boys) about this, because we visibly saw a stop to all the cryptic comments against management. I believe Selen must have interpreted this as harrassment because she didn't believe it was wrong to put the company under fire. Even though it was compromising the reputation of their workplace, she believed it was necessary, but the others didn't agree. I feel the girls relationships towards Selen became colder after this, but still on professionally friendly terms. Just no close friendships due to not meeting eye-to-eye. The boys may have been more on Selen's side so they maintained their firendships.

Then came her comment about her privated video. She clearly broke rules by telling them to reupload, but aslo the implication that it was privated for no reason by management put Niji under fire again. The other livers knew there WAS a reason for the video being privated and all asked Selen why she made that kind of tweet, making their company look bad again. She was already very depressed and in a bad headspace during this time, so all those messages must have felt like an attack on her since her emotions were very high. She worked so hard on that video and spent a lot of money so she must have been upset that nobody was taking her side.

Selen was loved by so many people, including me, for a reason. She was really passionate and invested in what she did and it captivated us. But that passion can also turn into impatience, emotional reactions and aggression. We saw these sides to her in her streams too. I'm not going to pretend that side of her didn't exist. I won't lie, I didn't particularly enjoy seeing those (very human) sides of her, but I did tune out during those moments, since I wanted entertainment, not to feel bad. We know she had the habit of saying things out of anger. Even implying she was banned from ever doing tournaments again - it wasn't true. Same with her video; in her discord leak, she said "it will never be unprivated." but immediately contradicts herself by saying "or if it is, it won't be the same". I do think if she had waited for her manager to get permissions to use graduated livers, they would have approved the video. There was no reason not to.

It's why I can believe that she interpreted everyone's messages and interjections as harrassment, because she truly did believe she wasn't in the wrong and she was shocked that others didn't take her side, even though most experienced the same experiences as her.

But I can also understand the POV of the other livers who want to do their job without their company's rep being under fire, subsequently affecting their own earnings and workplace happiness too.

I’m aware the evidence was in her lawyer document, which means we, as the public, have zero evidence. The only thing which alluded to what may have been the reported harassment was actually the black video. They basically said the claimed harassment was when they all messaged her asking her why she made that tweet. Doki didn’t deny this either so it’s all we have to work on.

Bear in mind, Niji fired her after receiving that document because they believed they were being sued. It’s the whole reason they aired out the dirty laundry first, because they genuinely believed Selen was going to reveal it to the public and wanted to get their side out first. Selen by her own admission said she was angry when she threatened to do that, but she calmed down afterwards.

idolEN basically did something very similar. The whole reason they wrote a list of what Riro did (including the shit nobody knew like her relationship with a manager) is because they wanted to say it before she went out and claimed that she was being groomed and abused by an idol manager and wanted to quit.

Both companies operated in a way to legally cover their backs. It looks shitty to us as the audience, yes.

I do believe that the livers didn’t know Selen was going through a lot mentally when they all bombarded her with messages. They most likely didn’t know it would push her to suicide. But after receiving the document, they would not be allowed to communicate with Doki privately anymore, as it could land them in legal trouble.

I definitely agree with you that they should have centered their video around an apology. They should have said that they did all message her about that tweet, but they didn’t realise it constituted as harassment as they didn’t know her mental state at the time. But ultimately they are humans under intense scrutiny, receiving abuse and death threats every day. It’s human nature to want to defend yourself from that first and foremost. I really doubt Niji were lying when they said she intended to reveal the document to the public. I think there are actually two possibilities.

1. Doki was angry during the month the document was sent by her lawyer and made threats to release it. (Her tweet said she was angry a month ago but not anymore). This lines up with Niji’s statement on her termination.

2. Niji misunderstood Selen’s intentions with the document due to language barriers and miscommunication. This lines up with Doki’s tweet where she said “All of the communication was done between lawyers in Japanese. Yes, again I acknowledge it could have been prerecorded. We have no proof for either so we can only make reasonable assumptions. Greater context like whatever Vox showed onscreen doesn't tell us who set the deadlines, how consistent either side was in communicating, etc. If they wanted to succeed in telling the audience Selen was at fault, it was necessary to show us messages and records to indicate a track record of bad behavior. Considering how many artists spoke up to defend her, it's clear she's quite consistent and agreeable when working with them.
