Yes, very much so. I'd recommend learning python or javascript. Java, while not necessarily a dying language is an old language so learning material is going to fragmented between old ways of doing things and the more modern versions. People have the impression that javascript is shit language but it's gotten infinitly better and it's not going away anytime soon. While python is used in both the ai/science field as well as web development. They'll also be easier to learn.

A beginner is not going to help with any open source project, this mindset has devastated open source by every single retard who wants to start programming trying to find projects to make single line code change to shit that they dont understand.

Just practice making your own projects. Make websites or games. Use Ai stuff like chatgpt, stable diffusion, suno, hugging face. Build web servers like a basic chat program or something that can send images or update a database. Learn how to use Docker and Kubernetes.

Learn javascript/nodeJS, python, java, and Golang. These will basically teach you the basics of everything about programming. Learn them in the order that I listed them.

I honestly would be reluctant to enter the field now. If you don't have any passion and just want to do those things for money, AI is going to be increasingly competitive at the entry level.
