I agree to a certain extent to be honest, despite them being bugs they actually had something fun going for them, and if politics were never an issue they might have kept it to themselves and just created more content.

It wouldn't have made a difference. Even in the unlikely event that China had come back around on Hololive it wouldn't have been at a level that would've made the CN branch sustainable in the long term. There was an attempt to establish an english speaking channel for Civia on youtube which looked promising but the only other english speaker in the gen was Artia who was reluctant about streaming on youtube in general.

What was the most frustrating part was that the whole thing was needless. General attitude towards Haachama's intial mention of Taiwan was upset but generally that she meant nothing malicious by it. Coco tried to defend Haachama by saying Youtube designated the viewers region as Taiwan so any blame should lie with them but all that did was paint a target on Coco's back for bringing a sensitive matter back up in the first place, leaving the chinese audience to think she was being inconsiderate opposed to trying to to stick up for her colleague.
After that things spiraled out of control and never really de-escalated. Anyone with chinese sympathies sided with China, included many clip channels who considered themselves the reason Hololive achieved such widespread international success in the first place.

Not reading the rest of the thread, but it's because Chinese nationalists sperged out over some youtube anylitics showing Taiwan as a seperate country and basically became so toxic toward Cover as a whole that the company shut down the branch. Was a shame because it really had nothing to do with the girls themselves, and a dew of them were really good.

Coco and Haachama read the word 'Taiwan' off of Google Analytics and the Chinese chimped the fuck out. Artia and the CN branch backstabbed Cover by encouraging their followers to harrass Coco and Haachama + other talents who collabed with Coco with spam and threats. Cover at first tried apologizing but eventually got fed up and told China to fuck off and pulled out of China and closed down the Chinese branch. Artia and the rest tried to pressure Cover to release their models to them but Cover told them to fuck off (not in so many words) and the whole venture was scrapped. Cover then de-Chinesed Nene and now no longer does business with mainland China.

adding on to this, there's a good chance that even if the dragonheart incident had not occurred, cover might have ended up cutting CN off - within half a year of that time, the chinese government decided that all streamers of all sorts on bilibili had to essentially dox themselves to the CN gov't to be allowed to continue using the platform. operational security may not be cover's strongest point, but by then they were already becoming aware that they do need to think about it, and use of bilibili at this point essentially means having none. there's a whole laundry list of other shit in the rules that got put into effect that would have proven problematic for cover, a wide array of "dictator for life pooh is watching, so you'd better obey" shit that was simply not worth dealing with. the whole line of bullshit was probably already being hashed out prior to the bugs deciding that google's analytics were a justification for hating cover and their popular american employee.
