On the contrary, from the sounds of it Suisei had already given up and decided to become an office drone or whatever when she sent that one last application to Hololive. Without vtubing, she'd probably have doubled down on her video editing and art, and I'm not sure how well that was working out anyway, she's said her video editing was mostly for pocket money. She didn't really have much confidence in her singing and had already been rejected a million times before by idol agencies. Vtuber idol seems to have been in and of itself a "last, best hope" kind of deal for her with potential fallback as a variety streamer if people didn't care about her singing.
